As we approach the end of 2024, we’re proud to reflect on a year of supporting adoptive families while introducing new initiatives to empower and strengthen our community.

This year, we launched our Educational Support Programme, designed to address the unique challenges faced by adoptive families in navigating the education system.

Through this programme, We Are Family aims to provide:

  • Expert-led webinars on trauma-informed learning and school transitions
  • Comprehensive Educational Support Packs to guide families in advocating for their children’s needs
  • Themed peer support groups where families can share advice and strategies

Thanks to the ongoing support of our members and donors, we’ve continued to grow:

  • 3,800 We Are Family members
  • 13 peer support groups running across London and the South East
  • 2 x 12 hour bespoke Peer Facilitator training courses to volunteers
  • 90+ recorded WAF Talks available in the Member Hub
  • 22 podcast episodes & over 12.4k downloads
  • 100+ face to face events
  • 50+ online meeting opportunities
  • 50+ volunteers

As part of our fundraising campaign, we’re excited to host a ‘Donate What You Can’ WAF Talk special—open to both WAF members and non-members on 3rd December 2024.

Led by Professor Beth Neil, this talk explores findings from an ESRC-funded study on adoptees who became parents, highlighting the challenges and turning points they faced. Claire (adoptee and founder of How To Be Adopted) and Daniel (adoptee) will also share personal insights on parenting through the lens of adoption, along with advice on the support adoptees need as parents.

Your donation during the Big Give (3rd–10th December 2024) will be matched, helping us deliver vital educational resources and build supportive networks for adoptive families. Together, we can advocate for trauma-responsive education and ensure children thrive.
