We Are Family are delighted to announce that The Educational Opportunity Foundation will be funding an important programme of our work over the course of the next year.
The Educational Opportunity Foundation is a grant giving organisation that offers funding for UK projects which improve educational outcomes and life chances for Young Carers and Care Experienced Young People.
The funding will enable more focus on We Are Family’s work to support adoptive families as they navigate the education system.
We Are Family Director, Lisa Barker saidĀ “Education is complex for all children, but the early life trauma of adopted children, and the subsequent need for trauma-responsive education, makes our existing system harder to navigate. A lack of post-adoption support means parents are often left to fight for their child’s education needs alone. It will take a long time for the education system to change, but children need support now. We believe that equipping parents is an intervention that can happen right now”.
The funding will allow We Are Family to develop various tools and information, through our Podcast, Talks, Mini-Talks and Hub to support and inform families. It will also support the development ofĀ education-specific peer support opportunities.
