We Are Family

Share your expertise as a Trustee of London’s most vibrant community for adopters

We Are Family (WAF) is an adoption community group providing opportunities for adoptive and prospective adoptive parents to meet and share experiences of parenthood.  We strongly believe in and advocate supporting the parent to support the child. We also pride ourselves on being a parent to parent group offering not advice but a shared experience.

We have recently been successful in securing a substantial grant to help develop our capacity and sustainability.  We have now employed an Operations Manager to drive this work and provide a platform for the Trustees to lead WAF to an exciting new level.

We are looking to strengthen and enhance our board of trustees with new skills and ideas. We want to appoint a number of new board members over the next few months to help consolidate and broaden our influence and capacity to provide support for adoptive parents.

In particular we are seeking Trustees who possess one or more of the following skills or experience, preferably at a senior level:

  • Experience of and willingness to chair a small charity
  • Experience of fundraising
  • Professional experience of working with or in the adoption sector
  • Experience of governance
  • Experience of IT networks, digital development and/or social media

Although many of our current trustees are from within the adoption community, we are also keen to recruit suitably qualified people who are not, but who can demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission of WAF.

One of the great strengths of We Are Family is that it is volunteer and member led, and that it represents a diverse community across London. We are specifically looking for trustees from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds to ensure that the board can benefit from this diversity of experience.

Board meetings take place every two months in Central London.  Trustees are also expected to serve on at least one Board committee (Services, Strategy and Finance & Resources) and will need to be able to do around 10 hours of work per month. The normal term of appointment for a trustee is three years.
